Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need to be a member to stay at the Lodge?
No of course not, all are welcome!
Do I need to bring my own food?
During summer you will need to bring all of your own food, there is no catering. There are also no shops up here on the mountain apart from the Coronet Peak Cafe which is only open 10-4.
In Winter during the week you need to bring your own food, although the club supplies basics like tea, coffee, salt, pepper and milk for tea and coffee.
On weekends during the ski season the club serves Saturday and Sunday breakfast and Saturday night dinner at a very reasonable cost.
Do we have duties while staying at the Lodge?
Yes, the Caretaker/Manager will roster everybody for duties especially during the weekends. Please ask the Caretaker for your duty if it is not posted on the notice board.
Do you supply bedding?
We only supply a bottom sheet, you need to bring a sleeping bag and a pillow slip.
Do I need to book in?
Yes! please always contact us to book your stay and make sure there is space! It gets busy on weekends so best to book early to save your spot. Booking details are on the website.
Are children welcome to stay?
Yes! Children are the future of the club and are welcome. A caveat re young children: Understandably, given that we have shared sleeping areas, some little people’s noisy night time habits can bother tired skiers after a big day! Thus bookings for under fives will be at the manager’s discretion, depending on circumstances.
Is the Lodge locked?
During the seasons while lodge caretakers are in residence, the lodge is not locked outside so you can come and go at all times. There is an internal keypad lock and you will need to get the code from the Caretaker before you arrive.
How do I find the Otago Ski Club Lodge?
Arriving near the top of the Coronet Peak Road just before you approach the Ski Area base, turn right into Car Park 5. The Lodge is 70 metres along, just below the road on the right side. You can drive up to the ski field (it is a good sealed road but in snowy conditions chains may be required). Or take the NZSki ski bus from Duke St in central Queenstown, right to the base building. From there free carpark shuttles are available to take you down to Carpark 5.
.
Is there Parking at the Lodge?
Yes, it’s just 25 meters down the road in the main car park. Please do not park your vehicle by the lodge
Can I unload at the Lodge?
Although there is a small unload area near the door, this is not usually practical in winter, due to our steep, icy driveway! Please unload on the road above the Lodge, then park your vehicle over in the carpark.
How far is the Lodge from the ski area base building?
It is an 8-10 minute walk up to the base building and lifts. A good warm up before skiing! If you have a season lift pass, it’s even closer to walk straight to the Greengates chairlift.
Is there anything organised by the club for children during the school holidays?
Yes, the club runs instructional Junior Ski Weeks. Kids can attend without their parents. Information and booking via our website.
Do school groups stay at the lodge?
Yes, these groups book in advance of the season start. Early in the season we will have a calendar available showing when these groups will be staying. There are always additional beds kept in a separate bunk room so club members can share the lodge with them.
